Congresswoman Kathy Castor continues to stand up for you and fight for change and reform and a New Direction for our country.  She was elected to the Congress in 2006 by the people of Hillsborough, Pinellas and Manatee counties to represent District 11.  She is an independent voice who has taken on the powerful interests.

Kathy has been fighting hard for families and for our community.  Kathy fought for and helped pass the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which makes the single largest investment in college financial assistance for families since the GI Bill in 1944.  Castor also spearheaded new health care investments at USF and the Haley VA Medical Center and the Moffitt Cancer Center through her position on the Armed Services Committee.  Castor delivered important support locally for the YMCA, City of Tampa, and Port of Tampa to maintain a healthy community with a healthy economy.  Additionally, Kathy has been leading the debate on issues that benefit hardworking families in Tampa Bay and across America, such as housing, Head Start, Medicare and health care initiatives.

Castor previously served on the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners from 2002 through 2006 where she was the champion for ethics in government and the award-winning Hillsborough County Health Plan that provides affordable primary care to hardworking families. She was the leading advocate for better growth management and fiscally-responsible policies..

Castor served as Assistant General Counsel to the Florida Department of Community Affairs in the 1990s where she enforced growth management laws throughout the state of Florida. She is the former President of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers.  Born in Miami and raised in Tampa, Castor graduated from Tampa's Chamberlain High School and holds bachelors degree in political science from Emory University (1988) and a J.D. from Florida State University College of Law (1991).

Kathy and her husband Bill Lewis have two daughters, Julia and Chrissy.  She is the daughter of former USF President and Florida Education Commissioner Betty Castor and retired Hillsborough County Judge Don Castor.
