Florida's Congressional Experts on Terrorism Back Castor

"We understand very well that homeland security is hometown security" - Kathy Castor

Alcee HastingsWashington, DC - U.S. Representative Alcee Hastings (D-Miramar), Ranking Democratic Member of the Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security. The Terrorism Subcommittee has direct oversight of intelligence community activity that relates to U.S. homeland security.

“We must fully prepare to adequately respond to another terrorist attack on our home soil. I will not be satisfied until every community leader responsible for homeland security states unequivocally that they have all the resources they need to ensure our safety and security. As I have said many times, homeland security begins in the hometown. This is just one of the reasons I support Commissioner Kathy Castor for Congress.  Commissioner Kathy Castor knows the importance of supporting our first responders and ensuring that they have the resources they need.”

- Congressman Hastings

Bob Graham

Senator Bob Graham (D-Florida), Former Ranking Member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Kathy Castor will demand that Congress implement the recommendations of the 2-year-old 9/11 Commission report.  Among other things, the Commission called for greater screening of cargo coming into and out of U.S. ports and airports.  The Bush Administration has failed to heed the call for this measure so vital to the safety of Tampa and other Florida port communities.  Kathy also shares my belief that the war in Iraq is drawing attention and resources away from the search for "Osama bin Forgotten” and from securing America's points of vulnerability (see article below).
